Job Location and Remote Work

This job is a mixture of field work and office work.  Almost all field work is within San Diego County and outdoors.  Currently all staff come into the office at least one day per week. Other days of the week may be done remotely or in the office, depending on each person’s preference.

Position Description

We are currently seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our team. Ideal candidates will be stable, reliable, professional, flexible, and possess excellent organizational and communication skills, a strong attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and a passion for quality and efficiency.

Staff level tasks are diverse and fluctuate with project needs.  Example tasks include performing environmental compliance inspections, water quality monitoring, report preparation, data analysis, best management practice (BMP) evaluation and design, and mapping.  This is a full-time position.

Experience Requirements:

Typical applicants have one (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience.  Applicants with two (2) or more years of relevant experience may be considered for the staff II level position, which accords a higher level of responsibilities, tasks, and salary.

Recent hydrology/hydraulics, storm water, or environmental consulting experience is a plus. Concrete examples of professional accomplishments should be provided in the applicant’s resume and cover letter.

Skills Requirements:

The person filling this position must be able to provide creative and efficient solutions to contemporary issues in the water quality field. We pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service to our clients; dependability and the ability to work well with a team are important. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Must be able to learn and apply relevant environmental regulations and permits quickly; existing familiarity with regulations is a plus. It will often be necessary to work in direct contact with businesses, developers, and municipal clients to implement environmental regulations, so the applicant should be capable of cultivating positive and professional working relationships. Relevant experience in SWPPP preparation, BMP design, data analysis, data management, hydrology and hydraulics modeling, report writing, and/or GIS is a plus.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, or related field, and a strong analytical skillset.
